I had a similar thing happen one time. Back in the early 90s I had a Plymouth Turismo (yes, I was that desperate). It was a piece of sh*! old 4-banger, but the insurance company (Nationwide) kept billing me for owning a turbocharged Conquest TSI, which was like 350 bucks a month, compared to like 80 for my little piece of crap. I had to call for about three months straight before they finally got it right. Chances are your problem is with an idiot that doesn't know how to use the Insurance company's systems right.
If they believe you actually have a 79 Maverick, then just go all the way and tell them that you want to insure a 2000 Edsel. I'm sure an idiot like that could probably figure out some way to make it work.
