I think they all had overdrive trannies and some sort of turbos. Maybe not..it doesn't take a turbo to go 12's. 3.55's or 3.80's will get you off the line pretty damned fast. Going from 2.89's to 4.11 in my 170 cid MAv. Would make a phenomenal difference in acceleration. But of course I would run out of cam/air way too early to make it worth it. Anyways..those are my thoughts..Overdrive in combination with 3.55 + gears in the back coupled with a a mildly built v-8 should yield 12's and 20+ mpg.
