The difference between a 8" and the older falcon rear?

I have been told I have the older falcon rear since my diff. is 4-lug and is 1970 model year..but..it looks like an 8 inch to me...It is an integral differential. We're the older types this way also? It has the webbing on it like the 9 " just fewer..lokks like a duck...quacks like a duck...is it a duck?
