I believe all the 250 cars were equipped with 5 lug wheels. I can't remember precisely where I have seen this, but it seems to me it was a good source. My 1971 2-door Maverick has a 250 and 5 lugs, but my 1971 Grabber with a 200 only has 4 lugs. Are you sure someone hasn't swapped in the 250 from a 200? Or worse yet that it might even be a 200 instead of a 250? Maybe post your VIN and someone here can help you figure out what your car came with originally. If it is actually a 200 (or a 170) then you'll need to change the tranny, because the bellhousing won't bolt up to a small block. If it is indeed a 250, either original or swapped, then the tranny should work fine.
