Overheating???

Hello everyone! I have a question about my 73 mav. I live were at 8:00am it is already about 85 or 90 degrees. I have noticed that after I drive the mav when I turn the engine off the temp goes way up. Is this normal? I had a rew radiator put in around October and a thermasat. The temp will go down if I start it up and drive around. Is this something serious? Thanks
