Jeri,you must keep in mind that the laws of physics are at work. Remember it's an internal combustion engine,therefore when shut of the last heat of combustion is no longer being taken to the radiator for temp reduction as the water pump has also stopped. The temp must rise and along with it the system pressure also rises and will slowly subside over about 5-10 minutes.
Ever see an auto that has just been stopped and see coolant on the ground. The pressure rise could not be contained by the pressure cap assuming there is not some other problem present.
Somthing else that happens on a vehicle that has old hard radiator hoses is that they split due to the pressure increase at the most inopertune time as they no longer are able to expand and handle this situation repeatedly.
Sorry to be long winded about this but thought you would like somthing to think about.
