: Please help me if you have any info. I just bought a 70 Maverick and I love it, but it will roll if you put it in park. The e-brake needs work but I know the car should stay in one place. When my friend and I were working on it under the hood, the tranny slipped into reverse and the car tried to get away. If you have any info, please help. It is a 200 straight six and I belive it has a c-4. One other thing is that the column shifter does not click through gears like my friends 72 Grabber did. Thanks

Sounds like either the detent inside the trans is bad or you have a worn out shifter linkage. Inspect the linkage all the way down to the trans. for bushing wear or missing. Also make sure the shift rod is not bent etc. Remove the rod from the shift linkage on the trans, then work trans lever by hand. It should "click" in to each gear position and stay there until moved again. You should do this with rear wheels off the ground so that you can turn driveshaft. When you reach park position, the driveshaft should lock up. Possible that the detent lever or spring loaded roller it rides on is damaged. If want, you can drop the pan on the transmission and see if this is so. Good idea to change fluid and filter anyway. Hopes this helps solve it.
