Help! My new Mav won't stay in one place.

Please help me if you have any info. I just bought a 70 Maverick and I love it, but it will roll if you put it in park. The e-brake needs work but I know the car should stay in one place. When my friend and I were working on it under the hood, the tranny slipped into reverse and the car tried to get away. If you have any info, please help. It is a 200 straight six and I belive it has a c-4. One other thing is that the column shifter does not click through gears like my friends 72 Grabber did. Thanks
