The only VIN that can be used is one that is "permanently" mounted to the car. The one on the dash is used for this purpose. The one on the door jamb is not "permanent", so you couldn't use it anyways.
Ricky is right, there is another VIN stamped on the top of the driver's side apron under the fender....but you have a problem there as well. You don't have a title for that number either.
You can get a title and a VIN, it will require a little bit of "work". Email Dennis and see if he can help you out.

: I bought My 77 Maverick about a year or so ago, well changed the title anyway. There is no vin plate on the dash, it is blank. the doors are old and any vin on the sides are gone. The title is in my name but after taking a look at it the VIN is Bogus. Three insurance companies have turned me down for an "Invalid" VIN. Two questions here are, Where else on the Car might I find the true vin. If I don't find the VIN what insurance companies can I use that don't verify the VIN. State Farm, allstate and farmers do the verification.
