Mechanical is better, you can tune it better. Depends on your local smog regs thou. Won't pass in Cal. I recommend Accel. Better quality then any others I've seen. Including, Mallory, MSD, etc. More user friendly too. The 6 5/8" is dia. the weight is the big factor. This also depends on usage. Heavy for street/racing. Lighter is for racing only. Then you have the material type. Go with the steel type. Aluminum is to light for street use. But then anything will work. Then there is also the cost. Steel is cheaper.

: I have been researching harmonic balancers and I am unsure of a few things. First, is a '77 302 internally or externally balanced? Second, how big is the stock balancer? All the catalogs show a 6 5/8" size, is that correct? I figured I could do the reasearch on the bolts for the pulleys, ( I have four ) but the rest seems rather imparative to determine before hand.

: Second topic: Is a vacuum advance distributor better than a mechanical advance? I would like to try a mechanical advance but I know very little about them. I don't want to get stuck with a distributor that I can't use because I didn't do my homework.

: Thanks

: Max
