In Reply to: Is the short block from a late 80's 5.0 302 the same as the 302 in my mav? posted by Ted S on October 16, 2000 at 20:01:44:

Compared to how the Chevys changed over the years, Fords are identical, but there are a few differences. If you are running a stick the late model blocks don't have the boss for mounting an equalizer bar. If you're using an auto you're fine. They are balanced differently, starting in 1982, so if you want to use the block w/and early trans then you need to be careful. The exhaust ports are the same all the way until the 1998 Explorer motors, which use GT40P heads. Intakes bolt right up, all years. -CP

: I am a Chev guy interested in doing something different. Unfortunately, I have done most of my tinkering on GM stuff and know little about ford's.

: is there a major difference between a 1970 302 and a 1990 302? Are the motor mounts in the same location and are the exhaust ports in the same location? I'm sure that there are subtle differences between the years, but is there a major difference between these blocks dimensionally?

: Thanks.
