if you have the distriber in it, take it out a install a primer shaft. Back off all the rocker arm nuts until all the valve springs are at installed height. Pull your spark plugs and using a hand spray bottle spray some 30wt oil in the cylinders. After you primer the oil system, with a filter on, hand rotate the engine two full turns, primer again and then rotate two more turns. Take a cotton cloth and spray oil on it and plug up the exhaust ports then tape over them. Same on intake manifold. Warp it in a plastic trash bag and tie the end of it. Do the prime and rotate about once a month.
: Just got my engine back from the shop...all new! I'm going to paint it and then set it aside till I get further along in this project. At this rate it could be a couple of years before it gets fired up. Any advice on how to store it? It will be in a dry garage (as in it doesn't leak!) but I'm concerned about condensation from the temperature swings we get here in Ontario. I suspect it could get into the engine via an open valve. I have taped off all the openings with duct tape to paint it. Should I open up the exhaust ports and put some bags of silica in them or something? Any advice appreciated as usual. Thanks in advance.
