::Headers for a 302 will work simply because the 351W heads are the same exact dimensions. I have had 351W heads on one of my 71 Grabbers for over 20 years and am still running my second set of Casler headers on there. It helps when you have them powder coated. I'm not sure if Casler is still even around as I haven't seen the name in a while but I feel sure there are headers available from Hooker made for a Maverick. I would check there first. Just specify them for a 302. My present Casler headers fit perfect with no bending and are about 12 years old right now.
::Ray : :It should be noted that 302 headers will bolt up to 351W heads with no problem, but there is more to header fitment than bolt pattern. The 351 block is taller and wider, which will probably make 302 application headers hit the shock towers and possbly the cowl or floorboard due to the raised height. There is also clearance issues with the starter, linkages, etc. A great deal of experimentaion would be required, and it would be one good reason to look at the 347 stroker rather than the 351w block for street applications.
The main reason I want the 351 is because the bottom end is much stronger at higher power levels than the 302. I want streetable torque without having to rev the engine too much. I thought people here have done this swap before? Or so they bragged they had. I guess I will just have to call Hooker directly to see if they are working on a set for the 351. I find it interesting that they make swap headers for a 351W into a Pinto yet not a Maverick. |
