It takes a lot of ingenuity because unlike the V8, you can't just open a catalog and build a high performance motor. That said, the bottom end of the 200 is almost indestructable and with the proper attention to airflow, fuel, and ignition it can make an impressive amount of power.

The first thing to do is improve the ignition. A Duraspark or Pertronix coupled to an MSD helps a lot. The exhaust is a weak point and headers and a good exhaust will yield a noticeable increase in power.

The 200 cam is very, very mild. A 254-260 degree cam will wake the engine up. Increased carburetion with a 2bbl, larger 1bbl, or multiple carbs really help make power.

A 200 can be easily built to make nearly 200 hp. Check out this Mustang 200 engine at http://pub41.ezboard.com/ffordsixcylinderperformanceforumfrm26.showMessage?topicID=153.topic

Or you could just go completely nuts like I did with this EFI, Cleveland canted-valve, aluminum head, Australian engine.
