:I have a 72 Maverick with a 250 6 cyl, with headers, and I have put a 2bbl carb on it. My header gasket is blown and I am waiting for the new one to come in but when I have been driving it around and a couple days ago it got alot louder. When you hit the gas and let off quickly it backfires. I was driving at night and noticed that it shoots flames out the exhaust pipe when it backfires. I am wondering if a burnt exhaust valve could cause this or if its just because I have too big of a carburator on it.

Sounds cool...like it runs good! Check the fordsix site they really know there stuff. Maybe with the added fule you need to adjust the timing...or maybe it's like a hopped-up circle track car that shoots flames. Cool!
