:Jerilyn, hang in. Alignment shops are normally expert in front end problems. Have they offered any reasons for your problem? Next, try to tell us what the wear pattern looks like accross the tread width. Is it wear on the outer 1/3, inner 1/3, little cup like surface wear, wear on both inner and outter edges etc.
Shocks (normally) do not cause a shimmy but do replace them if there old. Next is wheel balance, very important. Out of balance will cause shimmy. Rear balance causes the whole car to shake if out. Next is is tire defect. To test this, swap rear to front. If that's the problem, you should see the difference.
New front suspension!! What has been changed? Then there is steering linkage-idle arm,tie rod ends, control valve ball if power/manuel steering and steering box could need its adjustment if you have a lot of steering wheel play, the mounting of the box on the frame. Have someone turn the wheel back and forth 1/2 turn each way while watching the box in the engine bay.
Strut rod bushings, the long rods that go towards the front of the car at an angle. Shock/spring towers flexing. Check rag joint for wear although is would not cause shimmy. Aside from a componant being cracked, Iv'e covered most every area there could be a problem. Try to get some knowledgeable assistance to look at these things before spending more on fishing. If I can be of more help, use e-mail, and let us know if and what was the cause. There may be two or more problems. And-- stop by the desk on the way out to pick up the bill. Hope Iv'e pointed you to the problem.
Ken.
