:I gotta tell ya 74 that there's no magic in 289 heads.
..Your best stock heads are the 69/70 351 castings, already have 1.84/1.54 valve size along with 1.94x1.76 int. runner size and 60cc chambers. Do the exhaust porting and clean up the bowls, exhaust valve seat inserts and 3 angle seat cuts, screw in rocker studs. Should end up with 9.6 cr (without) a cut.
.Casting # C9OE-XXXX-B or D. or D0OE-C or G. If these heads are used, use the matching intake gaskets and head stud washers.
..The longer the cam duration the higher the compression can tend to go, up to around 10.5 on premium fuel. The cam people will also reccomend the CR to use when selecting a shaft.
.An example is if one would install a cam that has a power band say from 4000 to 7000, it would idle very rough and not have very much power for normal street use because the cylinder pressure would be away down so you can see that CR at that point dosn't help much. Be awhere that the exact oppisite can also happen, very short cam with high CR and you could hardly use much throttle without ping and to much of that is not good.
