C4 Transmission...i6 to v8 conversion

My question is this: I am converting from an i6 200 to a 302 v8. Am i going to rip my transmission in half with a mild 302? I'm expecting about 250 horse rear-wheel. The transmission is in good shape, i've torn it down and put new clutches in (bands were still in excellent shape from a previous rebuild). Is there a difference in bands? Any other differences aside from the bellhousing? Thanks!
