I like all of the suggestions. Here are a few thoughts of my own:

I hope you, and other up and coming designers and engineers understand that people have to LIVE with your creations. That means people not only want creature comforts, but shouldn't be forced to live with a design that's expensive to buy and difficult to service. I know a lot of people are tired of cars that require the powers of telekenesis (moving objects by mind power alone) to work on anything underhood. Look under the hood of your current Maverick. Look at how accessible everything is, especially for the six cylinder models. When the Maverick/Comet were new cars, Ford advertised them as being friendly to the do it yourselfer. In fact, a few years back, someone noted on this board that one of the Ford advertisements made it a selling point that much of the repair work on the Maverick/Comet could be done by the hobbyist with simple hand tools.

Bottom line: Keep it simple. Bonus points if you could sneak a carburetor fed engine past management. Extra bonus points if you could produce a revived version of the Ford 200/250 inline six, only with better breathing on the intake and exhaust sides.
