:Ok, heres a question for yall. I likely know the answer but want your input just to satisfy my own curiosity. In my Comet,
:250/6 w/C-4, when driving at higher speeds, and with no tack available, I get the impression that my car is wishing it had a fourth gear. I can feel and hear the engine, acting as if its saying hey, aint this a little fast. I have had many of these cars over the years but never experienced anything quite like this. When I install the V8, I am almost certain that the rear end has gotta go. WHat do u all think? Is it the 2.79 gears or what??? I mean, Im not dead set on a performance machine cause my wifes gonna drive it for goodness sake. But maybe the AOD aint such a bad thing here?? Keep in mind that here in Texas, to go anywhere usually requires highway speeds even on what most would consider short trips!!

..Bob, your not hearin things. Wer'e all use to our modern cars with overdrive or higher gearing. I feel thats why nearly everybody on the interstates are running 70-80+ mph as a norm now. No engine noise, reasonable fuel milage and rpm in the 1500 to 1700 rpm range make it easy to do this. Mix in poor judgement, aggressiveness and all the rest and its easy to see why the accidents are often so serious.
..My Comet has 3.1 and out on the open road at 65 the tach reads 2800 rpm =/- , the engine is heard and it kinda works on you. Slow down and everybody tries to run over you. So overdrive is a needed option. I would like to have the Gear Vendor unit behind my C4 then can have 3.55 gears and cruise at 1500 with 6 speeds to boot. Like the saying, have your cake and eat it to. But the money??? yes the money, its quite a lot. It doen't require a lot of work to install and there would be resale value.
..And one more thing, as we make our cars able to cruise at the higher speeds, brakes need to be upgraded and kept in top stopping condition. Disc fronts are about ready to be installed on my car with all new parts except for the spindles. Suspension parts replaced and front /rear lowered. Am investigating for the parts needed to go disc on 8" rear in the future.
Good luck,Ken
