:im not really sure how to use the archives. perhaps someone can enlighten me.
:ive been told that there are certain mustangs, that have a posi-track chunk that slips into a maverick 8" rear end.
:theyve said that if i can find a 74-78 mustang II, with manual transmission and V6, that the chunk will be a posi, and will have a good stiff gear ratio to boot.
:im not sure if that is all mustang II's with this combo, or if it includes any automatics.
:i was also told to look for a certain code in the door ID plate.
:
:can anyone shed any light on this subject or tell me where i can go to research this?
:and will the existing maverick axles work with mustang chunk?
concerned about spline count)

:MT, Go to a website....www.perogie.com...under engine/drivetrain, click on 8-9 inch rears to see there offerings. Finding what your looking for in a yard is near impossible unless there's luck involved or someone has some leads. We all want to do it cheap but to get it right the first time will require at least $500+ for a posi, gears, installation kit and labor if a shop does it then its all done. Its unfortunate that those who told you about this could not offer more specific help. Look in a JEGs and Summit catalog for more info on pricing pos/locking units. Gears will be 3:55, 3:80, 4:11. There are 3:25 and 3:40 gears but hard to find. 8" are all 28 spline axles. Axle length is per the housing length.
Good luck, Ken
