windshield question

what is the deal with the windshiels weatherstrip? i have heard that the new glass is thinner than the old stuff,and the new weatherstrips have the larger gap in them.will the new glass fit in the new weatherstrip or what? i need both new,so any guidence will be much appreciated.what should i buy,and from where. thanks guys.--george
