This is my 1970 Maverick Grabber.
Mine still exists in it's original Vermillion with black stripes Paint scheme, but it now sports a 1987 Mustang H.O. motor with ported heads, a Holley 600 Double Pumper, Weiand Stealth intake, Ford Motorsport B303 camshaft, Cobra Crane 1.7:1 roller rocker arms, Boss 302 windage tray, 1998 Ford Explorer liquid to liquid oil cooler, K&N air filter, and more.
I've restored the factory air conditioning with a 1989 GM V4 compressor designed for a Pontiac Lemans. It is mounted down low for aesthetic purposes.
This motor drives a 1968 Toploader 4-speed to a 1977 Lincoln Versailles 9" rear end with 3.70:1 Traction-Lok differential. The car has front disc brakes off a 1980 Granada, so it has 4-wheel discs. It rides on American Racing Wheels Torq thrust "D"'s and BFGoodrich Radial T/A's (P225/60R15 front and P255/60R15 rear).
The interior is stock except for the A/FX floor shifter, Auto Custom Carpet floor mats w/"Maverick" logo, and a KRC-3006 Kenwood CD changer control. I drive this car every day and have so far racked up 30,000 miles in three years. I drove it to Columbus for the Maverick Nationals from home here in Auburn, AL (650 miles) and averaged 19.4 mpg at about 70 miles per hour. No dragstrip times yet, I need a good clutch. |

The top two photos were taken at the 6th Annual International Maverick/Comet Club Nationals. The bottom two were taken at the 5th Annual Maverick/Comet Club Nationals. The Maverick Nationals are an annual event at National Trail Dragway in Columbus, Ohio. Held in Conjunction with the Performance Ford Club's annual Show, Swap, and Drag, this is the IM/CC's largest event, with 22 Mavericks and Comets attending the event last Labor Day weekend. |
