Remember if you go any faster then you also need to be able to stop faster. These cars weren't designed for speed.
Gear swap will make a great improvement. With that 300 you can get a gear swap. And it will work great when you go over to a V8. If you plan on using a C4 then go with 3.55 gears. It will make the car quicker.
An intake, header and a cam would wake it right up but won't be cheap. My suggestion is to take the money and save up. You can blow a ton of money chasing your tail only to throw it away when you decide to do it right. Trust me, this is experience talking here!
You cant swap the intake on the 6s . I wouldnt really do anything to the engine, since he`s planning to do a swap...... Like you mentioned saving up is better. Also V8 parts are cheaper than the inline stuff.
Keep the 200 in there, and enjoy it for what it is.Inthe meantime start doing upgrades to the rest of the car, front disc,a better 5 lug rear axle, save up for v8 springs, mounts, etc. No use pissing away $ on an engine, that your going to pull anyways.Me,I'd start with the v8 disc, then add a rear 5 lug axle, and go from there. On a very limited budget, you gotta spend the $ where it's gonna count the most.
First thing you need to do is get a job and save your money so you can actually afford to fix this car up right. If you go dirt cheap on stuff it generally bites you in the butt later.
i have a 93 5.0 ho short block its bored 40 over so its a 308 i want to sell it for proly around 200 bucks but ill take 150 for it
Before I swapped in my 306 I did a 2v carb conversion and it gave a lot better throttle response, idk about top speed but it had a lot better get up and go, if you know what i mean. Cheapest power adder you can do, cost me 13 bucks for the carb adapter and I already had one of the carbs lying around. but you could pick one up for about 50 bucks. Check out the 2v car swap in the tech articles.
I agree with earlier advise ... if you are eventually going to the V8 don't spend a dime on that 6-banger. Front disks and 5 lug rear first General advise is to plan out your final build and start searching and looking out for "deals" for the things you need to make it happen.
