On my 75 Comet track car I did away with the cowl vents n my 74 Comet I do the same with the magnetic covers if I got caught out in the rain

You can definitely take some weight out of these. Gotta love going to track , cruise night's or whatever an not seeing 10 car's just like yours....
With good touch a medium weight hammer will work ....fyi We didn't have a roller so just made do. Course I didn't have nice paint. Good luck with it
