mine are hooked up to a relay, then to the ignition. (key on) no problem with engine warm up.

my headers will rust when they've been wrapped EVEN if they are heat painted underneath?
just paint them with header paint, thats what i'm going to do. then wrap them up.

boy, i sure hope they're 6901's. 50 bucks is a cheap find. depending on how many miles they've been used.. pops said headers warp over time.
