0-60, What is considered fast?

I tried that ..once... The tape holding the dollar bill to the dash came loose on the launch, and the dollar bill cut the poor guys throat open!
Well, not really...

My old stock 6 that was pretty quick would go 60mph in the 1/8, low 11's
Now with the Explorer 5.0 it goes high 8's @ 76mph, but 330' is 5.75 @ 60mph for comparison.
My Mustang is going 72mph in 4.75 seconds, mid 7's 1/8

 

I think a factory stock 71 Maverick with a 302 and C4 did 0-60 in something like 9 seconds. Headers, a good intake manifold and dual exhaust seem to really wake these cars up, but I doubt unless a decent amount of work is done to the car a sub 0-60 time is easily attainable.

 

4.27?? That is very fast ... a new Boss 302 does 0-60 in 4.0 flat ...

I would think a Maverick would need around 325HP at the rear wheels to 0-60 in 4.27 ...

 

ITs real hard to get it close to accurate by hand. Seems like you a bit quick for your drivetrain to me.

 

A lot depends on what you're "used to". A top fuel driver would prolly think anything less than a 2 sec 0-60 as slow, while your granny might think 20 seconds was too quick. I used to think my '98 Dakota p/u (6.18 secs) was quick, but my little turbo S-10 rips off 4.35's and that makes the Dodge look like a bus. BTW, that 4.35 was a 12.17 quarter so you're looking pretty good!

 

there's a difference between a "fast" car and a "quick" car also.
you can have a high 9 second 1/4 mile car that tops out at 145mph.


9 seconds is very quick, but compare it to a supercar that only runs low 12s in the quarter BUT tops out at 200mph.

when you compare it that way the 9 second car is not fast at all compared to the 12 second car.


and the 200mph car is not quick compared to the 145mph/9second car.

thats what I was thinking also, but those apps are very optimistic .

 

I'd say 1.2 seconds is a good, round number to shoot for.

 

I run low 1.80's for a 60' time. I don't want it to go any faster as my class is limited to 12.0 in the 1/4. Last time out at Firebird I ran 11.86 in the time trial. Fun thing is when some car is just a little slower than me passes me early on then lets off thinking I had a really bad light. Then I go by him at the other end doing 116mph.

 

Wow ok. I was hoping my car would be 13/14 second quarter, but with my 0-60 at 4.2 and yours at 1.8 with a 12 quarter looks like mine might be a lot slower than I thought...

 

I think that's his 60 foot time. If that was his 0-60 mph, he'd have around an 8 second car in the 1/4.

Don't know what you've done to your car, but, I think the new mustangs are spinning around a 5 second 0-60 mph time and they're running in the mid-13's in the 1/4.

However, I could be mistaken on these numbers.

In a 1971 Motor Trend test between a Nova 350 SS, Hornet SC360, 360 Duster, and a 71 Comet GT with 302/3-speed floor shift and 3.00 gears, it did 0-60 in 8.7 seconds and the quarter in 16.2. Single exhaust too! For comparison a 70 Grabber with 250/Automatic with 3.00 gears did 0-60 in 10.8 seconds. The 69 1/2's and 70 200 did (according to the magazine road test's I have) 14.5 with auto and 12.3 with column shifted stick. The same years with the 170 and three speed averaged 15 seconds to 60. In a Special Interest Auto magazine from 1974 the 250/3-speed did 0-60 in 12 seconds flat. Most Consumer Reports tests with a combo of 250/200 (mostly with auto's) were in the 17-19 second range. But they drove like little old blue haired ladies. Most folks could beat those times. Their 73 with 250/Auto took 16.3 but mine will consistantly do it in 14. For comparison early Pintos with the 2.0 and four speed with 3.55 gears would do 0-60 in 11.3 and the early German built Capri's with the same engine would do it in 10.8. The 1.6 liter pintos usually took around 18-19 seconds.

 

Ok, ya that sounds more like it. I didn't even realize there was a 60' time measurement. So I will hope for low 14's and anything less would be a bonus.

 

Let us know how you do when you take it out. I'd say, with the stuff listed in your description, you oughtta be about right. Heads are a huge factor. Don't know what you're running for those. Take some pics, too. We like pics.
