Thanks for the great pictures. Mine were not bolted to the frame. I will have to look and see if the frame had holes in it.

Oh......now all of a sudden everybody believes me now. :D

The 73 Comet I have now was built in Kansas July 73 with DSO code for the Los Angles area. (bought it in Las Vegas and had it shipped up to Van BC CANADA). My old 74 Comet was built in Kansas Aug 73 and DSO code for Pacific region in Canada, it was bought locally......funny only a month apart, but totally different! Both came with factory 302, my 74 had the mexican 302 block with the big Main Caps etc., but the 73 only had regular production 302........
I guess it just depended on where your vehicle was on the production line and what parts they had available to use at the time?

So maybe it's a Comet part being that it is a better made part

So, are you saying that it had the 74-77 style front bumper, rather than the 73-only style?

I bet it is a Comet only valance and the Maverick you took it off of used that valance to replace its original damaged one. I have never seen one like that either.

My 73 Comet has the big style front bumper, like that of the 74's and later, but it also has the front lower valance, see the pics from earlier, plus it still has the small rear bumper and lower valance.
My 74 Comet, as you know has both the big style front and rear bumpers, no front or rear lower valances.
Will post pics later of my 73 Comet front and 74 Maverick front.......

I wonder if they started running out of 73-style bumpers late in the year and rather than get more made, they just switched to the larger ones instead, since they were months away from do so anyway.

73 Maverick and Comet front bumpers are the same, right? No bump-out on the Comet ones, like the thin earlier bumpers?

The 1973 Comet Bumper does stick out further than a Maverick bumper.

If the car is a 1973 (according to the VIN) and has a 1974 front bumper, somebody has switched it out.

I'd say no, or we would have seen one by now, my Brown 73 is pretty late production, and it had the normal 73 front bumper...
