289 swap

    I just talked to the guy and he wants 300 for it.... i kinda think that is a little high for a motor that needs to be rebuilt but don't really know

    what do you guys think?

    sounds a little much to me to but just to add in i loved my 289 in my mav while it lasted it performed real well, and one of the things i liked alot was how high the 289 like to wind up :drive:

    $300 is highway robbery for any 289 unless it's a Hi-po.

    another reason to check under the valve covers....the cups under the valve springs, and screw in studs.:thumbs2:

    I had a 64 fairlane 500,sport coupe w/289 special,auto. Don't know if that was the only year.It had hydrualic lifters. Is hydrualic spelled right?:yahoo:

    You can find a 289/302 that needs rebuilding for far less than that.
    If it is complete, top to bottom, and the cylinder walls aren't so rusted that it won't clean up with a bore, you gotta figure around 100 bux.

    Unless it is a HiPo, as previously mentioned. If that is the case, buy it before he figures out what he has. Even if the block won't clean up, there are plenty of other parts on that engine to make your money back, and then some.
