Yep! the hard thing for most to learn is the "do it right" part. If you do it wrong you are going to wish the gears were made of rubber.
i tell ya what, we ran an 8" rear for about 10 years at the strip with a 302 and a c-4 with a 4500 stall convertor and slicks, never had street tires on him, ran many many 9.30's in the 1000' cause thats what our track is is thousand foot racing, hell after we took that rear out of mavman's car we just stuck it over off in the ole fairmont of oldguy's, well to make a long story short, it lasted most of 13 years gradually running from 1.80 60' times to 1.39's in dads car before it finally munched all the teeth off the pinion, other than that you couldnt complain a bit, they are a helluva lot stronger than what most people take em for, i know a guy that runs one in a 86 mustang with a 521 in front of it, and yes it has slicks too, the thing about it is the maverick axles are a little bigger around than most other 8" equipped vehicles, as for the T-5, well, i aint ever done much with em except buy and sell em, but as far as toughness i think you'd be alright, seen lots of guys runnin em, stock as can be with a 250 shot of nos in front of it in the junkstangs
