This is an excellent thread. I just dropped my block off today to begin the initial work. I know already I need new rods and pistons for the block. We were in his office discussing my options. New rods, pistons and such would be around $5-600. For $400 more, I could go ahead and get a stroker rotating assembly kit. Now I'm just trying to decide which one to aim for.

I havent quite figured out my heads for my 347 but I think Im going for the twisted wedge 220cc's.
I dont know all of the numbers or how all of it comes together but I THINK bigger is better when making plenty of horse power.
from what I understand the more air flow you can get to go through as fast as possible the better

I could be way off but someone will set me straight if I am

any upgrade you can afford is a good upgrade :thumbs2:

the only reason I can afford to build a super charged 1000hp 347 is my machine shop has allowed me to come in every time I have any extra money and chip away at eh cost of the parts ordering parts as theyre paid for

if more shops would allow us to do this I think there would be alot more hot rods / race cars.
but I imagine there are guys that act like the shop is there savings account and when they run into money problems they can just go get there money back. NOT

Type in Roxboro NC Dragway, and look for the video of the Foolsgold Mustang, and you will see what a 331 can do.This is a high 9 sec. car with gobs of power. You can punish the crap out of a well built 331 and they will stay together,a 347 makes more torque but will not take high rpm and stay together.

I hope you're building this around an aftermarket block. If not then it's going to have an extremely short life.

I wonder if that is your "run of the mill" 331 though ? And not the aftermarket version built around a 4.125 bore aftermarket block with a 3.1 stroke ? Big difference there. I'd love to build the 4.125 x 3.1 version, if I ever have the money to build one.

Not to say that the power can't be made since there are plenty of others doing it with these motors.. but I wondered the exact same thing after watching the video.

Sure sounds like a bigger bore.. and/or MAJOR compression to me.
