No replacement for displacement. No susbistitute for cubic engines. Can't have too much power. Sheer brute torque. And anything you've heard Tim "The Toolman" Taylor say about mo' power.
scooper i just paid for my mustang II from Dan he was selling it on this forum its on the way my 460 will be in in no time i cant wait
Hhhhmmmm.....now I know I suggested the big inch windsor but I will have to add something in response to this "pearl of wisdom". Try this one on for size 302-Boy: +.030" 460 = 466 Keith Black hypereutectic flat tops Standard Sealed Power ring set Stock rods with ARP bolts Stock crank FRPP swap oil pan FRPP hydraulic camshaft/lifters/timing chain & gears Stock 1970 D0VE heads with 2.19/1.75 valves Used Crane 1.7 rockers Offy Port-O-Sonic single plane intake Holley 850 dp (out of the box) MSD distributor Hooker 2" swap headers C4 w/3500 stall converter 4.11 gear 28.5x10.5 slicks stock suspension fox body (1984 Thunderbird) weight: 3345 w/driver 10.35 @ 136 mph.....all damn day long. Total investment: $6500 (and that includes car, engine, tranny, rear, wheels, tires, roll bar, everything!) Damned simple, inexpensive, low rpm, low maintenance. Now, would I put one in a Maverick? No. It's not a "bolt-in" deal with the Maverick. The Fox chassis T-Bird was easy. Maverick will take a whole new front end. I'd go with a 408 or 412 inch Windsor instead.
Shadow...that sounds like fun I agree with the fit part with the maverick. That is why I will likely do the 393 bore/stroke so it will all just bolt on. But I still want an MII-type suspension. I cannot stand working around those shock towers, even with my "healthy" shock tower cuts. Just too crowded under there.
