While the idea of a 351 C Maverick is cool as hell, I would seriously be rethinking the whole plan. Even if ( or when ) you get it in, you still need to worry about the safety and roadworthiness of your Maverick. If you're going to pound and bang and cut and hack whatever is in the way, you're running the risk of seriously compromising the integrity of the car, which could harm you or others. What good does it do to go through all that work, only to end up plowed into a guardrail or another car? Okay, I'll step down from my soapbox now.

Usually when I run across a post like this I ignore it and hope it goes away. I didnt take my own advice and got in sometime back. This post is goin nowhere and is quite ridiculous. It should end here. Nuff said.

I think the appeal is that he already owns one and wants to use it.

no encouragement needed... i was dead set on doing something not normal to that car from the get go... i was only $100... what i shouldnt have done, was traded my 78nova that had a very rough running(w a cracked intake manifold).... for the 302.... BIG mistake on my part. $350 + dollars later the dang thing still dosent want to fit right......

Does Anyone have a Tranny crossmember for a 76, and how much do you want for it?.... cuz i think that's half the problem....

at least i'm not trying to shove a chevy sb in the mav..... honestly i think that would be a discrace to that car..... even tho a 350 is a dime a dozen engine and would be easier to fix up.

i would say go with the 302 for now....put the cleveland in when you can afford it.....at least you can pas every other gas station in the 302 car istead of stopping at every one with the 351....the ford big blocks are great motors but are expensive to keep running especially as an everyday driver. i know it would be hard on my wallet....IMO

    help me understand

not that this isnt a very entertaining thread, but...

this guy has NO money. he doesnt think it will cost LOTS of money to get that cleveland in there. i wonder if he knows the condition of that cleveland. i mean... "dude said it ran", right?
i hope he also got the transmission and any other matching parts he might need.

but whats most baffling to me is.. he's already got a 302 in it. he's having a problem getting the headers in. this isnt a uncommon problem, and its usually overcome, eventually. arent there available "relocation" kits available to make headers fit a maverick?
i dont know if i absorbed all the right info to be taken from this huge thread. but if all thats wrong with this car is not being able to get the headers in, why not just slide a pair of exhaust manifolds in? i mean... there dirt cheap and plentiful, right? should be very easy to install. cheapest/simplest way to get the thing going.

i guess some people need a challenge.
i think its a huge waste of time and resources. (and MONEY)

maybe he should consider jerking the windsor motor outta da van, and sliding it off in da maverick. then put the cleveland in da van.
    bigger is better for everyone!

You need custom headers (expensive). I personally know a guy with a '71 Maverick drag car with a 351C & Tunnel-Ram. He has custom headers on it. Otherwise, cut back the spring towers and box them in, then run regular exhaust manifolds. They don't flow as good as headers but they flow real good...
