    Alan,

That does make sense if talking about going from a 250 to a 302 in an already-light car. A difference of feeding 50 more cubes could be compensated by driving style.

Still ... a drop of 100 cubes, and a bunch of gears and OD to help it along could be a fun driver and be the best way to wring 30+ highway mpg out of one of these cars.

I think a 200/T-5 would have more of a sports car demeanor as opposed to the musclecar aspect that so many of us here seem to strive for.

Yea, that is just the 250 unfortunately. I'm not saying the late model 200 is the absolute way to go, obviously the 250 would be far easier if you want to run a T5. But if you are dead set on a 200/T5 combo, then the late model 200 is the easiest way to go IMO.

I did the swap into my '63 Ranchero with a hot 200. It was GREAT. Had to be doing about 70 for 5th gear, but I also was running a 2:78 rear end.

Lot of info on this on http://www.fordsix.com/ go to:http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50854

I used a T-5 for a V6 as it has a better 1st gear and larger input shaft bearings. Input shaft is a little to long and had to to cut, but worked GREAT. The 4 cyl T-5 will work as well, but I wanted a a stronger trans as I had almost 200HP

The big bell housing was not the issue as I used an e-van bell. You do need the bellhousing for a top loader trans. The adapter bolts to that.

I used the small bell with a Mustang 4cyl 8 1/2 clutch and stock flywheel, Pressure plate and T/o bearing for the Ranchero and it was an all mechanical set up. You will need to shorten the drive shaft, make a trans mount and cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. The T-5 uses the same pilot bearing.

    Captain Comet,
I understand the arguement on driving style on this issue, but that was the point of the statment concerning better gas milage with the stock 302 2bbl over the 250 I-6 1bbl in my car.. My driving style at the time did not change much. Oh, I did get in the gas more with the 302 (but honestly not much), but suprisingly, I saw better gas milage. I have two 95 mustangs right now. Before the V-8 GT conv. went down (another story altogether) It was getting almost as good gas milage as the V-6 car. Both cars are 5-spd. Heck the gas milage diff between the 08 Mustang 8 & 6 is only 1-2 MPG difference. ( If you keep your foot out of it)
As far as the engine to T-5 combo goes. I was only giving my opinion that I believe the I-6 250 would be far easier due to the abundance of 302 5-speeds out there that would bolt up to the same pattern. JMO

If you use the 302 bell housing on the 250 there is the issue of the clutch linkage, pressure plate, t/o bearing amd firewall clearance. By using the 250 bell housing and the spacer/adapter for the trans to bell housing the stock clutch, etc can be used.

As far as MPG. 302/5.0 over the 4.0 V6 any day. The I6 (200-250) may be different. Think I'm only getting about 16-17mpg with my 250 c4
