I think I must have something against brown cars. Must be because my first Maverick was brown and I hated it....at first!!

Maybe I should clarify my position on this... There's definitely a "line" as to where I'd consider a car sacred vs. a blank canvas waiting to be maimed in the name of awesome. I'm not saying if a car's all original it shouldn't be touched, (or that I wouldn't touch it, rather) far from it. If it's in exceptional, fantastic, museum quality condition but for a few slight blemishes, I would probably fix those and keep the car original as long as there's anything about the car that makes it rare or interesting. If it's something that would be no loss to the world if I make it into something else, I'll do what I want with it. The car we're talking about here isn't just complete, it's got very low miles and is in exceptional condition, so I personally wouldn't want to mess with it, because a 100% stock Maverick isn't something I'd enjoy as much and I would eel compelled to keep it that way. Now if the car needed some body work, showed its age a lot more, or it needed a driveline, etc. that would be different. I'd also expect to pay much less for it.

I have a Real Brown Grabber...it's going to get painted! Nothing is sacred around here.

Even my Green 73, was a one owner car, with almost all of it's original paint, when I got it (114000mi) I still took it all apart, and it's not stock. I don't know how much fun a 100% stock Maverick would be, I've never had one.
The only 100% stock car that I really love, is Eric's (Acornridgeman)

Sometimes I wish I would have restored my car to its original 1973 LDO mustard yellow glory and looked like this again.......

Instead of making a silly grabber clone and ending up with this.........

Maybe it would have been worth more as an original? Sometimes i wish i would have gone original cause I really like the way that original color looks on that car. even with the wide LDO chrome strips. But my car was such a stripped out and gutted $50 mess that whatever I did was an improvement. I also did own an original 70 cyl. car. I had just as much fun driving around in that as I did in my 73. It got just as much attention and was fun to cruise in.

Wow! You have a great looking Maverick now Ryan...and it sounds awesome...

...But that car looked incredible before too! Never seen that pic before. :)

Correction...I guess I didn't read your post right...So that is how you "wish" you had restored it. Well, it would have looked great both ways.

    I would say probably not.

If you started out with something like that....you would have been buried just trying to find all NOS pieces to replace the moldings, for example. Sounds like you bought a blank canvas to begine with.

Ya my car was originally optioned like the first pic. still had all the LDO moldings exepct for the roof trim. vinyl top was gone and roof was pitted pretty bad. Had the LDO buckets still. no motor, headliner was gone and interior needed to be redone. The body was the worse part but not too bad. I could have pretty easily gone back original but I was young and creative.

I was going to say, "Wow your car looked just like Lee's!!" but then I realized, the picture is Lee's :)
I like your car, you built it they way you wanted it, they are never done, and you always have that wondering feeling....

Everybody has a different taste, stock , modified, restored original, survivor. And tastes change over time. If I had no attachment to my car and somebody put both Lees car and my car in front of me and asked which one i want, I'd probably choose Lee's car. But if you put Allen's car in the mix too, I'd choose his.

I dont think 8500 is out of line for the car, I think if it was a grabber it would be worth less to me, you couldnt buy my cruddy old 70 for 10k cause I really like it, I recently bought a 71 2dr 250 6cyl car with 38000 actual miles cause I liked it and yep its nasty green and if I told you what I paid for it you would probably say I got ripped off, but I like it, I'm not going to modify it but only because I like it how it is now and yes I drive it allot, what is a perfect pristine grabber worth? tops in the 10k range? I can think of a few cars that are not grabbers that I'd pay allot more than that for, just my opinion.

The great thing about Mavericks is they are still reasonably affordable compared to most cars in comparable shape and mileage. Alot of the guys can have more than one and do them different ways. If I had the extra room I'd have a clean stock orig 6 cyl. to cruise around in and my modified car for shows and races. gotta please both sides of the brain.

And the only way that this car or any car can be considered over priced is if nobody buys it. If thats the case then the seller either dosnt sell it or reduces the price until its where somebody will pay that much. If somebody pays 8500 for this car then thats what it was worth to somebody to buy to make sure they owned it and not somebody else.

What I like, is no matter how many Mavericks & Comets you get together, there are never 2 the same.
