If it's been spray painted over, duct tape should pull the paint without damaging the sticker. Just stick the tape on, rub it down, and pull it off.
Cool project ... always good to see another Comet on its way back. Looks like you have a bit of work "un-doing" what the previous owner started, but taking it all back down to the extent you are, it should not be too much extra work. The floors don't look too bad, compared to some. Just went through that myself, and patched a few spots. If I had it to do again, I would have simply cut a whole section out, and adapted a chunk of Mustang reproduction floor pan. It would have been more extensive, but far less work than I ended up doing. No one repops our floors. Mustang pans are cheap ... CJs Pony Parts is a good source. Anyone there comfortable with a MIG welder? Taught myself by studying a lot of online stuff, and trial and error... it's not that bad. Have you checked the condition of the cowl areas? That is a common problem ... leaking water into the interior, and there is some good tech here. Given the shape of the floors, I'd say you might luck out. The center of that hood ornament will be a red reflective plastic item ... frequently sun-faded. They had tabs that were melted to keep them in place.
Very cool find.... Great to see another Comet GT brought back to life. Also if you order the marti report you can also order a duplicate door jam label to put back on after the repaint.
I found the sticker, and took pictures of that the dashboard and engine numbers. I'm just looking for the camera that's been misplaced. Pics to follow shortly.
Yeah sorry for the abrupt post with he numbers I would have typed them out but we were in a rush to get out the door. Colour is '4w' and I think Trim is 'L' and DSO is '47'. Ill order a Marti report sometime late this week. Just running on a tight budget this month. Yesterday though we got the majority of the spraypaint off the trunk, hood, body and rear fenders. (I forgot to take pictures though) We have some paint around the trim to take off and then the doors and front fenders need to be sanded still. Speaking of trim, can I just scrap the Chrome trim I have now and still be able to order new chrome trim somewhere online? or should I try and preserve what I have now? All day Sunday and Monday we are pulling all nighters to finish the rest of sanding/grinding and then paint the engine block as well. (black)
Yeah my father in law is going to coach me on the use of the mig welder, if he doesn't do it himself. Otherwise it will be all online learning!
I was wondering if somebody had a picture for where the engine mounts, mount. I cant seem to find it, I must be blind. They were not in place when i bought the vehicle either.
Nice project for sure, make sure you keep your trim aswell incase you can't find anymore. Keep everything until your sure you don't need it, I made a couple mistakes throwing stuff out thinking it would be easy to get as if it was a mustang... Well was I sure wrong
