    Are you using a primer/sealer? ... some straight primers actually attract water (and rust).

    The shifter should at least have the floor mount, too. It is like a rectangular cup that the shifter mounts into, and the cover drops down on.

    Yeah its a primer sealer I've got. I'll go through my box again and see if I can find that cup for the shifter next time Im up there.
