I was thinking, is there any companies that make performance 8" rears?

Currie, Randy's Ring & Pinion are a couple. I'm sure there are more. I would stay away from Perogie. 2 of my friends have bought stuff from him that just wasent right.

Just like the Maverick, Pintos and Bobcats could have either the 7.5 or 8 inch rear. Engine size or number of cylinders does not matter.
If the car has an 8" rear, it breaks down something like this:
4 cyl auto tranny: 3.40 with optional 3.55
    4 cyl manual tranny: 3.40
A/C cars are 3.55 standard if memory serves.
V6 cars are 3.40 and the trac-lok was optional.

The rears are small bearing 4 lugs, so the only part that is interchangeable with our 8" rears is the chunk. Identical.
You wouldn't want to use anything else anyway.

I am surprised this stuff isn't common knowledge here.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, I'll never get a cheap Pinto chunk again...
    ;)

    Edit:
Late 60s-early 70s: Fairlane, Torino, Ranchero, and maybe others...
The 3.28 gear is common in 8" rears for these cars. I have no idea about the availability of trac-lok.
Just in case someone wanted a very mild increase over the 2.79-3.00 gear set.

Yeah, I knew about Mustang-IIs, but I never knew about Bobcats. I wonder if any of them actually had Trac-Lock. Will have to keep my eyes open for them as well now. Buddy of mine wants some better gears than the 2.79s he's currently running...
