I wouldn't be just joking. No offense intended to you but the insurance companies collect huge payments then try to deny everything they can. If this guy was a lic. A/C guy and he used a product intended for auto A/C then that claim should not have been denied unless you can prove he put to high a charge in or was negligent in some way. sorry I just had a claim denied on my business insurance (only one in 26 years) Because a client left a product with me to photograph and it got damaged while in the studio. First line on my policy says "property of others" I should have been covered. but it was denied because it was in "my care, custody, and control" now why else would I need coverage for property of others unless it was in my care, custody, and control? Sorry for the rant, Insurance companies just want to collect but try to get them to pay you and you have to sue to get anywhere. Then they complain because everyone has gotten to sue crazy. ( No I have never sued anyone and I don't believe in it under normal circumstances)
I see your frustration but what we don't know, is Rob'sCometGT representing the truck owner or the repair facility on the claim. I can see them denying a claim that was caused by a faulty repair at an unapproved repair facilty. IMO it is the repair facilities responsibilty to repair the truck. No I don't work for an Insurance Company
Yeah I see your point, They paid for A/C repair once and this was a continuation of that same claim. Afterall if you were just driving down the street and your A/C compressor went you wouldn't call your ins. Co to repair it. ( I don't think, I know I wouldn't anyway) Point Taken.
Just for your info up here in British Columbia we have extremely strict regulations against using anything but R134a and if anyone is caught using anything else they will lose their licence, especially if it is a repair shop. The reason this claim got denied was because of this fact, he went against regulations. We are probably the fairest insurance company out there as we are a public auto insurance company and not a private company (provincally owned). We are held accountable for any and all of our actions. We work for the customer, not against them. Anyway, enough preaching about work. Hope this somewhat clarifies this issue. And by the way, before slamming someone else's occupation make sure you have all the facts before you really piss someone off.
Rob's 74, as you see in my last post I undertand now where you were coming from. Besides the fact that you are in BC as opposed to USA. Here in the states it's a whole different game. How pissed off would you be after paying premiums for 26 years if you had a 3600.00 us claim denied on your business insurance on your first claim because you had the item, meaning it was in your possesion and you look at your policy and the first thing it says you are covered for is personal property of others? My Lawyer tells me to sue the insurance co and the agent. (The agent should be covered under his errors and omissions policy since he knew what I did and specifically covered me for my work) My father owned a body shop for over 30 years it was constantly the insurance companies trying not to pay for new parts or for all the damages, anything they could do to keep from paying out. My sister was walking in a state park (no cars allowed) and someone drove through and hit her while she was walking. Guess what. She had to sue to get her medical bills paid. If there was ever a cut and dry case that is one and the insurance company denied it because she was walking on a paved road ( keep in mind the entances are gated with signs saying no motorized vehicles allowed) so excuse me if I included your profession in my coments. Obviously the USA and BC are totally different and I just didn't catch you were from BC. Any USA insurance people can feel offended LOL sorry had to say it. Robs74 my apology to you is very sincere. Your situation and how insurance works there is a whole different ball game then here in the USA. I am very sorry if I offended you. I should have looked to see where you were from before making a blanket statement.
Apology accepted. I understand where you are coming from as I have heard numerous horror stories from all over the U.S. and also from other provinces across Canada. This appears to be a mandate of private insurance companies to force the issue so that people have to sue to get what they rightfully deserve. Not so with our system. Now, they are trying to get rid of the public insurance system that we have here, only problem is the only people that are pushing for this have never dealt with private insurance before.
I wasn't aware that Hot Shot was still available, it is a non combustible blended refrigerant and a direct drop in replacement for R-12. It's been years since I used it but I had good success with it. Last time I looked the York compressors in our cars had the standard king service valves on them so a regular set of gauges will hook right up. Make sure to pull a vacuum on the system to at least 1000 microns for 30 minutes. The receiver should have a sight glass built in the top of it, charge to a full sight glass at 2500 rpm's always watching your head pressure, it shouldn't exceed 210 lbs. Hot Shot's Temp/Pressure characteristics are exactly the same as R-12. Cruising pressures should be in the 40-45 lbs on the low side and 180 to 190 on the high side. Idle will will be about 10-15 lbs higher on both. Dupont also makes a direct drop in replacement, I beleive its 401a but not positive. I think you have to be certified to buy any of these refrigerants. It's been over 15 years since I was certified and I know the rules have changed a few times since then because everytime they do I get a new certification card.
OK, I'm still a little shakey on the Hot shot stuff. Is this the same as the Freeze 12 stuff I've heard about? Is it ok just to top off an R12 system with a can of this stuff? $ years ago my company sent a bunch of us to a school and I passed the certification and have a Universal License, so I guess I can buy the stuff. My company never did any more training for us since then so I still dont understand or remember much about refridgeration.
You can add it right on top of the R-12 Dennis with no problem, it's temperature vs. pressure characteristics are the same. Use the above method to charge it, you shouldn't have any trouble.
Hot Shot and aircraft systems I am an aircraft inspector, and I receive a bunch of trade journals. In one recently there was a notice that a Hot Shot product was approved by the FAA as a replacement for R12 in general aviation aircraft. I figure it has to have a decent chance of being safe. Beware that there may be more than one product produced by this company and the one you see for sale might not be the one I read about. I did not note the part number of the product in the article. Try Google or the company website and research the aircraft angle on Hot Shot for the whole story.
