Look at the list and see if you find the one you have.. http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/exploded_views.html
Things to check easily, 1- does the lever that says cold - hot seem to move anything in the heater box? You should here a thunk when you move it back and forth. 2- Does your engine need a new thermostat? You should not be able to touch the top of the radiator or the heater hoses for more than a second, once it has warmed up. 3- Has someone put a shutoff valve in one of the heater hoses? If so make sure it's turned on, or just remove it. You won't need one through the winter! If all the above don't help you, your heater core may be plugged. A radiator shop can flush it out for you.
simple man- theres no noise when i switch from cold/warm seems to be a slight difference in temp maybe? no valve in the heater hoses. where would i look for these vacuum hoses? ill try to get a pic of the engine bay today
The hoses are/or were color coded; most of them are behind the temp control panel and branch to various parts of the hvac sys. Some of them may have been changed over the years due to failure and replaced w/ reg black hose. Check out the link below - Jeff has a great site for info on our cars. U will need the diagrham to aid in ur repair of the sys. I did mine sys this past spring and now have all my hvac working. Lastly, I might suggest getting a vaccum pump to aid in diagnosing vac motors in car and heat control valve if u don't already have one. Harbor Freight has two brands/prices. http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick.html
ok so in his picks i notcied that the bucket think on the pass side has hoses running to it. mine does not. what is it and what does it do?
That's a charcoal vapor canister; it traps and burns (by releasing into the air cleaner via the larger tube) gasoline vapors from the gas tank instead of venting them to the atmosphere. I want to say they came into use around 1971? Prior to their use, the gas tank vented through the cap.
I know a lot of people like to remove the canister, but I don't see any reason to do that. Other than not liking the look of it under the hood, I can't see how it would hurt engine power, which is why people like to remove emissions equipment most of the time. The big benefit is that it captures the gasoline vapors so you won't smell the fumes all the time. Bottom line is if you have all the parts, it won't hurt to connect it and may even be beneficial in addition to making your car emissions compliant.
well emissions here in michigan dont really matter. Im not sure how it is in other states but sounds like someone physically inspects your car.
Yeah, from a "you're going to get in trouble" perspective...no, it doesn't really matter up here in Michigan...
ok here are pics of my engine bay. I dont see any vacuum hoses? that you mentioned for the heating system. Let me know if you need additional photos
When I look at the 70-72 Heater diagram it looks like there are only cables. I can't tell but it looks like no vacuum hoses. Maybe you need to stick your head under the dash and look around to see if anything is disconnected.
ok ill check under there. where is the thermostat at? where can i get one and what does it mean to be 180?
