Here's a pic to show what needs to be trimed from the Taurus shroud.

Another alternative to the Taurus fan is the 1997-2001 Ford Escort/Mercury tracer cooling fan.

For some of us the Taurus fans just wont fit in our cars, with the V8, trimmed fan housing anything. But the escort fan uses a flatter motor and is a couple inches narrower then the Taurus fan, utilizes the same diamater/similar profile fan blades so it pushes about the same ammount of air as the Taurus fan, it has 2 speeds like the Taurus fan and is offset also. Only problem is its a little bit harder too find.

Also make sure while you are going through volvos that you see if you can find one of the mega fuze/relay assemblies it saves you some time wiring them in and provides for a clean install.

How well does that fan fit/mount on the Maverick radiator?

I run this one. Works great and real simple to hook up. I have the controller on a 12 batt feed again.(my batt draw was the tach not the fan controller) Fan cycles after engine shut down. Works well to lower under hood temps. Its surprising how many times it will cycle after shut down on a hot day. You dont want to be stood beside the car when it cycles on. The heat that it moves would knock you sick.

I thought ur thread was a vry gud addition to the fan upgrade discussion. This subject seems to generate a lot of intrest. Are these Liberty fans hard to find? What abt cost compared to say ... the Tarus setup?

The profile has too be trimmed just like the taurus one does otherwise it fits on my stock radiator just fine.
It works great I will try and get a pic or two of it later tonight if you want..

I really only did it cause the fan was free. I work at Chrysler so I kept my eye open measuring up fans. This one fit nice with trimming but the taurus fan fits a bit nicer I would think by looking at pics. I know I did more trimming then the taurus fan needs. I really like the controller I used though from Carquest. Works perfect for me. I have about 70 dollars total in this if memory serves.
I think the draw on this one is a bit less than the Taurus fan?? This one runs round 21 amps with a start up spike to round 40 if I remember right. Cant remember what the Taurus fan draws??

Ok, this is a very interesting topic-but let's see from what i've read the different cars to find the fan/shourd assy are: Taurus/sable, escort/tracer, & a volvo. Now what are the year ranges for each vehicle & what about engine size, does that dictate different fan assy??? I can't wait to get to the boneyard & start wrenching! Just kidding, it's hot...

Here are a couple shots of the escort fan installed. The fan diamater is the same as the taurus fan, it just uses a thinner motor and it is offset a little bit more then the Taurus fan.

Is the Escort fan dual speed? Are all Escort fans pretty much the same as far as physical size?
