Had a good time. The thing sounds awesome with open headers, the camera really dosen't do it justice. We just didn't want to run it long for fear someone would call the cops on us or something. :rofl2: I don't know what is done to that engine, but it definitely has a cam in it with the way it idles. It's only moved about 50 feet under it's own power so far, but I can tell you it certainly wouldn't have any trouble breaking the tires loose, if one were so inclined. :D

A few little odds and ends, like getting the column shifter hooked back up, the auto parts store giving us the wrong radiator hoses, and the lack of air cleaner are what is holding up getting it out on the road. And obviously the engine itself needs to be cleaned and painted, stuff like that. I have no doubt the car will be cruising up and down the road by this time next week.

I think the paint job on this car gives Frank's a real run for it's money!

I almost forgot... is it normal for the double hump V8 trans cross member to not bolt up in a '70? With a bolt in one side, and the other side swung all the way up against the floor, it was still about a half inch off from the other hole. We ended up just drilling another hole, and it's all bolted up fine now, but it just seemed strange to me. I know the tunnel is smaller in the '70 Mavericks, but I didn't think that affected the area where the cross member bolted up.

Did you try flipping it around?
I think I recall having that issue in my Comet

i would think that a 70 wouldnt even have the hole for a dubble hump cross member since they were all I6 cars that year?

It has the hole, just like it has the holes for the belly bar.

I think it's common. I ran into the same problem with the cross member not mounting up to the other hole in my 70. I modified the cross member instead of drilling another hole in the car. I've heard of others having to modifying it too.

    Getting there.............

Well, thanks to Jamie Miles' help, and lots of black hands and such, we are getting alot further on this 69.5. We did run into serious problems trying to get the column shift hooked up with the headers we put on. It just plain won't work, so we are having to go with the floor shifter. We're not big on fabbing stuff, and don't have the welder to do it anyway. But here are some of the latest pics. We also had trouble finding radiator hoses to go from the V-8 back to the 6 cyl radiator we had purchase just a month or so ago. NAPA had them....at NAPA prices too.....Now we still have a cowl leak to contend with.....
    :(

    Looking good!

Atleast somebody had what you needed, even if it was a bit more.
