If anything, now with the new 5.0's, it should make all those kickass Lincoln motors worthless, and more affordable.

In my humble opinion the "mod" motors are really great.............but if you apply much boost those factory "cracked" rods and stock pistons they will eventually come unglued. I am not saying that there are no "stock internal Mod motors that can stand high boost, but the reliablity of a stock internal Mod motor with that kind of boost is more like a time bomb waiting to go off.
My 97 had not internal mods but a close friend had a 98 with the same mod's mine did with exception of a Whipple Charger. We started out at 6psi, then 8, then 12, then tried 15, (at 15psi we were just breaking into the high 10's) and thats when we started breaking ring lands...............if you put good forged pistons and H beam rods in the DOHC motor with a good oiling system I really believe you have yourself a good foundation for a 700/800hp short block.

So heres a way to make it plain and simple, if your life depended on running the quickest time with no power-adders, which would you want under the hood of your Maverick, a 69 Boss 302, or a 2005 4.6 stang gt motor ? I'll take that Boss every single time.

Put up a Boss 302 vs the New mod 5.0L. No contest at all.

Ford is finally finding the true power of variable cam timing and 4V OHC heads.

Also the Boss 302 was a mixture of two engine families.

I love both engine families. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. And both are a great platform.

So, let me get this straight, a 1969 Boss 302 rated at "290 Factory HP", which was really about 360/375.....................and you would put this up against a bone stock 4.6l GT............that's not even like Apples and Grapes! If anything I think Maverick75 had it right, put the 69 Boss 302 up against the new Boss 302, now that would be an interesting race!

i am saying this in 100 percent confidence a stock 69 boss 302 barely ran high 13s generally speaking it ran a mid 14......no offense to any old timers as I am 34 years of age.....and never grew up in the "glory" days but that aint all that fast and a bag of chips.....you realize that was net hp rating and not gross.....the stock 4.6ls from 98ish up push almost 300 at the flywheel and advertise 260.......I'm just saying that todays v6 puts out as much as the badass 302 boss......having said that they are cool motors with huge potential but a stock one was over carbed ,undergeared, and the tires were like pizza cutters......they did not perform all that well.....that is fact.....and as can be seen in the article I listed in a link.........

At least ford is starting to get some cubic inches in these patheticly huge motors. Ill always have a hard time with them as all I think back to is the early oil burning turds they started out as.

    CornBeef4.6l,

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I never saw a Boss that ever turned 14's at the strip.......................and I have been drag racing longer than you have been alive. A stock off the show room Boss (with a good driver) could easily turn mid 13's and with a set of slicks and some fine tuning could easily break into the 12's. So, with your 100% confidencen please tell me what other "Off The Show Room Floor" cars could turn 13's in 1969. Not sure where you are getting your information, but if it is out of books or "HotRod" magazines..........well then I can understand. As for 13 second street cars back in the late 60's and early 70's................there weren't that many............and a 13 sec street car back then was like a 10 sec street car now!
My 68 Z28 ran 13.6's bone stock and with headers, gears, and slicks it ran 12.5's all day long. More to the point I had a 1976 Trans Am with 455/4spd that was stock except for reworked "stock carb" and set of long tube headers that ran mid 13's with 3:23 gears, street tires and through the muffler..........and the factory HP rating was 200, and in 76 a 13 sec street car was still plenty quick.
And to talk about the new Ford V6 putting out as much HP as the "Badass" 69 302, well I don't see any "Factory" V6's putting out over 350HP ATF. So whatever med's you are on.................please send some my way.
    IMHO

I can name a v6 right now putting that kinda power out as easy as 1-2-3 the ecoboost puts out 345hp and over 400ft lbs of torque....and again at the flywheel it is much more than that......If you take the new mustang v6 it puts out 305 hp gross hp....at the flywheel that is close to 350 flywheel hp....the factory 3.7L 2011 mustang run 13.6 in the 1320 and if you throw gears, slicks and exhaust mods in that formula you get low 13s high 12s......it really is true....I promise.....and I do not take any mind altering meds these days......a few years back....welll that is another story....

I have seen 2 stock boss mustangs one ran a mid 13 the other ran a low 14 at edgewater raceway in Cincinnati Oh. I was very disappointed and my father who was sitting next to me and raced for ford said"son most of those cars were not as fast as the old guys would like to brag, but when modified both engine and chassis, they could run much faster" My father ran mostly 67 Fairlanes.....He had engines from 390,427, to 428 scj and those race prepped cars ran at the fastest a low 10. He was a small time racer but he was backed by ford on a very limited contract. My father knows and has raced many of the greats.....Smokey Yunik, Ohio George, Dyno Don etc.......but again those are days long gone and mean nothing today.

Fact todays engines and chassis are just superior to the old stuff. They are doing more with less.

oh yeah buick 455 stage 1 or 2 skylarks ran 13s easy.....in fact one of my good friends has a 1970 stage 1 455 with slicks and 331 gears and it runs high 12s. Other than a demon 850 and and sligtly larger cam it is stock. My good friend Doug has a 340 six pack T/A challenger Apparised at 100k and he has ran a best of 13.40 in the 1320 and it is all stock.......

You do not have to have lived back then to see those cars run at the drag strip.... Edgewater raceway in cincy runs at least 2 mujscle car drags and I have seen just about everything you would have back in the day stock to wildly modified run....

I DRIVE THE NEW STANGS EVERY FRIGGIN DAY, ECO- BOOST AND SO ON ------ V-6 ALL THE WAY UP TO THE GT 500 AND ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE I GET TO PDI A BOSS.

THERE IS NOT A ONE OF THEM THAT CAN TOUCH A 69 BOSS !!!!! WITHOUT A POWER ADDER.

Put me behind the wheel of that Boss and that v-6 stang will look like it is in park if you dare race it.

OK, your are right about the "Eco Boost" motor, but this is not a "Normally Aspirated" motor, I though we were discussing a 69 Boss and "The New" Ford V6.
One other thing I hope you understand is that Ford rated its engines, as did everyone else in the industry at "Gross HP" up until late 70, and in 1971 switched to "SAE Net", (from 1972 to 2005) as did other manufactures which means these are and were dyno'd on an engine dyno and the HP is measured at the flywheel, not a chassis dyno which rates the HP at the wheels......there is just slight difference there. In 2006 most manufacturers started with the new "SAE-Certified Output, (they still run on an engine dyno with all of the accessories hooked up, which means the "certified output" closed a few loop holes left in the old "SAE Net" system and also has an impartial observer witness and certify the true numbers. So the new V6 is rated at the flywheel (in SAE Net HP not Gross HP) the same as the Ole 69 Boss 302 which was rated at 290HP by Ford in 69...............but it really put out 350+HP to the flywheel. This was great for a short time in NHRA classes, then NHRA caught on and re-factored the cars................
For a number of years I had a close friend that worked at Ford in their "Engine Development" division...........working at the dyno facility......and the HP numbers Ford was feeding the Public were only for "Political" and "Marketing" driven reasons...............along with keeping the Insurance Companies off consumers backs with higher insurance rates.
As for drag racing, my drag racing days were spent in SS classes, and I started out with an SS/IA Camaro with 327 NHRA factored at 275hp, then moved to a 63-1/2 427 Ford Galaxie, the 68-1/2 Cobra Jet Mustang. I was a small time racer and only had a handful of sponsers, never any Big Names like Ford though, and trailer my drag cars on an open trailer all over the Northwest and Northern California. My current Maverick was a B/SM car and raced at the Winternationals in Pamona in 1979 where it was turning 10.3's with a Clevor 302 and 4spd.
So, I've raced with the same Big Name people but found some of them to be real AxxHxxxs, like Grumpy Jenkins who woundn't give me the time of day when I asked him for help by answering a question at SIR. And with the exception of my first engine I built all and maintained my engines and chassis's myself. So, being there I can say with 100% confidence that I was there and saw it happen.............and my mind is pretty much as sharp today as it was back then.
As for the cars you saw run today, well............I know nothing about them so I can't spectulate about how they were running or the drivers, I can only go by my experience.
My Maverick is setup (chassis wise) exactly the way it was in 1979 and the only changes are in the motor and trans and it has gone 9.801 in 1/4.
Yes, technology has changed and times have gotten faster as some of the door slammer cars are going faster today than AA Fulers went in the day.
    IMHO

I would put a new v6 mustang or ecotech v6 whatever against a stock 69 boss anyday of the week.....

and no offense but a video with no track time just doesn't add anything to support your side of this "disagreement"

Here is a stock 70 boss 302 it "manages a 14.40:biglaugh:that being said I am sure it will run low 9 with you driving:drive::tiphat: now if this car had better gears and tires and some suspension tweaks(a better driver) it could run high 12s I suspect....

    here is another one

    it manages a high 13.......
