If I want to put a sub in my trunk would i have to put carpet in the trunk or sound insulation to make it sound good, or could i just coat it in bed liner and put a trunk mat in it. Also should I put some kind of insulation behind the front speakers in the kickpanels?
i would put something like danamat to keep the trunk from vibrating. newer cars don't vibrate like older cars do. what size sub and what kind of enclosure are you thinking about? i have lots of sugestions about enclosures in maverick trunks. been there tried that. if your putting 4 inch or small speaker in the kickpanel persoanlly i don't think you need anything beind the front speaker in the kickpanels. if you putting a 6 inch or larger it would (personally i don't that large of a speak will look that nice) stick out. If a 6 inch doesn't stick out then the magnet is probably small and the speak proabably will sound like crap anyways so no need to stick insulation in it anyways. also if your front speakers are crossed over for the higher frequencies (which i would suggest) you wouldn't need the insulation either.
Right now i just have 1 10" and one of the sub boxes from wal-mart. But when i get a job and fix the rest of my car up i would maybe like to get 1 or 2 12"s.
sound in my 77 mav ive got two kicker solo barics with a 2400 watt amp but now i dont have any trunk space
is the enclosuer ported, bandpass or sealed? i think you can get away with just a bit of dynamat on the trunk. if your rubber seal is not good on the trunk it my still vibrate. you might wanna stick some on the rear licences plate as well. you may want to try to speakers facing differant directions to see what sounds best. i found in a maverick subs sound way better if the subs are facing to the rear of the car rather then the rear seat or facing up. try it and you'll know what i mean. remember the trunk also acts as a enclosure.
Buttkickin Ford Philco AM stock radio, that never gets turned on because it can't be heard over the Flows, no better "sound system" in my book
Itook a "chunk out of a wrecked bronco dash(the part around the radio) its plasticso its easy to cut....put a din kenwood in the stock location(doesnt look to bad) with the changer in the trunk, pioneer 6X9s in the rear deck powered by a sony amp also mounted under the rear package shelf in the trunk(with the cowl leaks these cars have I wasnt taking any chances) up front Ive got 2 small pioneers(3.5" i think)in the dash where the old single was ,and when I get time/money I look for aset ofthe kick panels with the grilles and look to put something with a decent mid range sound in there...sounds ok no super bass capabilities but its enough for me.
I have a Pioneer CD player, 2 ten inch MTX subs in a bandpass box, 4 six by nines, and 2 6 1/2's. How does it sound?? Ask Jeff Scroggins:evilsmile ........but I think it sounds okay......... Preston Since I bought the car I have had 10's, 12's, and a 15" sub in the car. Personally I like 10's the best. Nice tight, crisp bass. I also like to hear my music above the bass--- hence the 4 six by nines and 2 6 1/2's. I have never messed with the dash speaker.....one day I will. Your stereo options with these cars are limited only by your imagination and your wallet. I have had tons of different speakers/combos in my maverick, and have mounted speakers in some strange locations- just to see what works. Well anyway, Have fun!! Preston
ditto hes right about limited space in the maverick however you can use your imagination... awhile back i use to run tweeters in the air condition ducts, rear view mirror (facing the window.) and also sperates in the rear ash trays. but he likes 10's.. 10s are nice becuase its saves space and even more when in a band pass box personally i like 12s sealed much deeper bass! also remember if you do get a sub plan on how you are going to run it and with what kind of amp. personally i'd get a amp that is stable at 2 ohms and then get two 4 ohm speakers 10 or 12s and bridge the amp and run the speakers in parallel. if its set up right you can get a true 100RMS amp to sound better then any so called 1000 watt amp.
Yeah, I forgot to mention the amp. I prefer Rockford Fosgate. I have a mono channel amp that runs at 2 ohms. Punch amps are insane when it comes to power. Make sure you have a big enough power wire and FUSE when you run you amp wires. Bigger wire means more power and less chance of a short or fire. Good luck!! Preston
yeah i won't knock rockford fosgate their stuff is great... its just pissed me off now that they are made in china now. but oh well. still developed here.. i guess you can beat overseas labor. lighting audio is also made my the same company as RF its just a bit cheaper in price. my buddies got a punch 150 thats been passed between my friends over and over again. its from the late 80's it still works! personally i perfer hifonics for amps... thing is their stuff is made over seas too... pionner and alpine for head units and kickers for subs
"I have a Pioneer CD player, 2 ten inch MTX subs in a bandpass box, 4 six by nines, and 2 6 1/2's. How does it sound?? " hey preston, the 6 1/2s are your front speakers right, were did you put them? And i dont want to sound dumn, but whats the difference in a bandpass box and a sealed box.
