I drove my 1972 Gran Torino Sport for 4 years until the rot got too bad to get it inspected. It had a 351 Cobra Jet Cleveland, toploader 4 speed and an "N" case 9 inch rear in it. I kept the engine, trans and center section and gave the rest of the car to a guy that ran Ford stock cars. I wondered what smaller car this would all fit into and remembered a guy having a 70 Maverick sitting in his back yard. After finding out that Tubular Automotive made swap headers, I started to pursue the Maverick. I got the same story for 3 years about him not wanting to sell it or that he was going to fix it up. I was starting to think Granada or Zepher until out of the blue, he calls me and tells me to come and get it. I asked him "how much" and he tells me to "just come and get it". It had sat then for 10 years total, I filed the points, put a battery and some gas in it and it started up. It only had to go 3 miles to my house but it lost the brakes at the first intersection and then I ran over the entire exhaust system on the way. That was 1989 and I still have it, stripped to the shell right now and 1 week away from going over on my home made roll over stand.
i know where 3 71-73 gran torinos sports are stitting in the same yard! there in good shape and pritty solid.there hear in maine! there red with a yellow gt type stripe on the sides
Well here's my story.I could probably post a dozen of them but this one sticks out in my mind the most.A friends dad says to us one day during conversation that he had found an old EL Camino[i know a GM but stay tuned] in a back yard and that since we like old cars we should check it out.So one Sunday we were out for a drive and decided to have a look at this old El Camino. We pull up in this driveway in the middle of town and in the backyard sits a 1970 SS 454 Camino.I start to check the car/truck over and my friend goes to the door. This thing is original from the air breather to the exhaust tips.Talk to the old fella and he says "you know guys i bought it new i don't have tools,i don't have a garage most likely i will never fix it.BUT my grandson might want it so let me talk to him and i'll give you a call" That was 3 years ago and it still rests in the same spot.I've left messages but he never calls back. Derek.
I got this Gm G-body collection collection going as well as the fords, 78 monte, 85 olds cutlass and a '86 Regal(my daily driver). any way ive been watching this beautiful rust free '85 olds sit on flats(american racing rims) at my friend's mom's house. he wont budge for less than $1500 even though none of the belts are connected, breaks leak and of course its not tagged but the metal was perfect, 2 years ago. so i was over there last week and now you can see rust poking through the quarters and the doors and also a ton of cut wires under the dash where his sister's boyfriend tryed to hot wire it. its worthless to me now.
Went to look at the car today so I could make an offer. After I looked under the hood, and right torque box I was no longer interested. Car is totally gone rust wise. Car has 2 good pieces on it. Front bumper and deck lid. Rest is completely infested with rust including rear bumper, roof and hood. Owner of car now says she will just pull motor and put it in truck. She actually wants a couple grand for the car, kinda sad, it is a 44k original mile car. Dan
