Dan, this would be a great tech article. Could you take notes and pictures as you go along and then report on your results? Thanks, Dave
Dan, I have a set of 74 LDO seats that I was going to try putting in a 77. This is a different problem in that the floor is too high for the seat frame. Interested in swapping?
Only if they are Tan and no rips ... Edit: I see in a prior post your seats are blue ... here is what I am thinking: Perhaps we could dismantle our passenger seat, trade the bottom portion that contains the unique frame and tracks, swap out the seat cover and reassemble the seat. May take a little time but at least both of our seats will be installed correctly .... Let me know ... Dan
I like the idea but am not sure how well it will work. The upholstery clips onto the bottom of the seat frame and isn't the 75 frame shorter than the 74? The 74 frame seems to be the same height on both sides of the seat. I have never seen the later years frame so don't know if this will work or not.
I should have them in my posession soon ... I will let you know ... If you want take some detailed pictures and measurements of your passenger seat and post them or email them to me. That way I will be able to determine if it's a waste of time or not .... Perhaps somebody else on the board will chime in also ... Dan
Scott ... my understanding is that the frame is completely different and pre-converter rails will not bolt onto a post-converter frame. I guess I'll know more once I have the seats ...
The 1st is a pictures of a post converter passenger seat. Compare it to the next picture. Notice that the leg on the post converter seat has been removed for this design and the seat track mounts directly to the seat.
Here are a couple more shots of a post converter seat. It will not sit level on the ground, it will actually fall over. On the other had, the pre converter seat will sit all by itself. I hope these help.
Can't you remove the track ... add some spacers in the green area and bolt it back on using longer bolts?
If you could duplicate the leg on the outside of the seat with some metal tubing, you could weld the leg on and then just use the pre converter rail. (Yes, basically filling in the gap). You DO want it to be safe.
Dan, it looks to me like the seats you have aren't set up for the cat hump. The frames on both seats look the same in the pic you posted. Doug, is the inside rail on those late model seats bolted directly to the seat frame? I have the later model tracks and if all I have to do is remove the brace on the inside and bolt it to the seat frame that doesn't too hard to do.
I can tell you this ... the seats are supposedly out of a 75 4-door ... So either: 1. The floor pans on the 4-doors allowed the cat to be set back further so Ford used early type rails on 4-doors or 2. The Seller is incorrect about the year of the car .... or 3. It is an optical illusion and they truly are cat hump buckets ... I am still waiting for delivery so I will see ...
