Out of curiosity, what clutch are you using?

IIRC it's a Hays 10.5 Street/Strip Diaphragm Pressure Plate and a Hays clutch disk, they came with the car but seems I remember looking it up at one time.

I have three pairs of vise grips that I found over the years, holding various things together on vehicles! These are "real" vise grips too! :thumbs2:

Seems like a pretty beefy clutch. I don't have much experience with Ford cable clutch setups, but I would think you need more than a $40 parts warehouse brand cable.

Actually a $69.00 cable, if I get another one free, like warranty I'll use it till it fails, then get a better quality one, it only takes a few minutes to change it, the cable itself is fine, it's the dang plastic flange at the end that failed.;)

I went through several cables from the cheap aftermarket (2) to Steeda's adjustables (2) and finally ended up with a factory replacement that is still good and a Steeda firewall adjuster. I also had to reinforce the firewall. When I was using the FordRacing HD pressure plate, it cracked the firewall. I fabbed up a bracket out of 16 ga to go in between the cable and firewall to solve that issue. Turns out the firewall metal is very thin where the cable passed through.

Yeah I got a little help on mine, I went through the firewall close enough to where the adjuster is sitting on the pedal support on one side and the base of the adjuster is pretty large so it would have to bend a lot of sheet metal to bend in, got the new cable on now and it's a better one than I had plus I put a large washer on the flange of the cable and that should keep it from collapsing again.
