Yeah the repos are out there I was talking about an original. I certainly wouldn't be offended seeing one on a MAverick or a Comet in fact I think it would be cool as hell. But I know some Mustang Purists that would have a fit to see an original 1970 shaker scoop off of a Mustang sitting atop a Maverick engine poking through that Maverick hood. The Maverick Really was the muscle car that never was. But i guess that is good for us guys that love the style so much. If Ford had of made a muscle car out of it then the prices would be out of reach for a lot more people that like these cars.
Here's a little more info on that car. I have a photocopy of a classified ad from the Feb '71 edition of a Canadian Motorsport tabloid called Wheelspin News. The Colt prototype was being offered for sale with 12,000 miles at $3,995! Here's the copy: "Colt" Maverick, blueprinted Boss 302 with Sig Erson cam, Grabber orange, tinted glass, exterior decor group, AM radio, FMX automatic transmission, Winters modified torque converter, 9" traction lok rear axle, 4.30:1 ratio, Cragar SS mags, G70-14 Polyglas tires. '69 Torino 428 front brakes, '69 Mustang GT rear brakes, orange blazer stripe interior, blacked out hood and rear deck, shaker ramair hood scoop, front and rear spoilers, carpeted interior. The seller was John Philipps, Performance Director at Ford of Canada at that time. Wonder what became of it? Where's that WayBack machine?
i found the book and is not the same car but is did put a 302 boss in and handling modification in the book they say that the interior is stock but its look like a mustang to me. Its have some page who talk about AK Miller turbocharged who run on propane gas and articles of modification Ak miller who put 3 carbs on 6 and other modification. i will post some photo soon.
Most likely would have been Linda Pleva. She was the only one with connections to Ford that I remember.
Huh...I guy from Iowa digs up a bunch of Canadian dragracing photos that i didn't know were out there.
I might have found a lead on this car ... Hot Rod Magazine used to have classified ads. The May 72 issue lists an ad ... "1970 Boss 302 Maverick made by FOMOCO, Candy Apple Red, Ansen (wheels), duals, Goodyear Polys, auto trans, 20,000 miles... " It lists a name and address. The town was Port Clinton, OH, which is pretty close to Detroit and Toledo. Ironically, I got this magazine at an antique mall about a half hour away, but almost 4 decades too late. Going back and reading the first article posted, they mentioned it was orange ... maybe a repaint and wheel change? ... maybe more than one built? Detroit is known for that ... build concepts and drive them around to test them. If the car was in fact, a 70, it shouldn't have had a V-8 to start with, and this was only 2 years later that it was up for sale.
