Not about a Maverick but my buddy took his 32 ford coupe down to hot august nights last year. Well he got asked to park it on the main drag in between to beautiful looking fortys sedans. Well there he sits when these two guys come over and start bad mouthing his car. They don't like the color (lime green) should have gone witha modern engine (has a flat head with 3 strombergs). So he asked what they drive. It happened they owned the cars on either sied of his. So he asks did you build your car. Ans. no Q. Oh did you do the interior? Ans. No Q. Did you do the engine? Ans No. Well he looks at these "gentlemen" and says I built this car, I did the suspention, did the body work, did the paint built the engine and did my own interior. On of the guys wifes turns to my buddy and says our credit cards built this car. The two bashers kind of sulk of towards their respctive cars. My buddy wlks down the street to a vendor hea had seen earlier that was doing vinyl graphics and asked to have a sign made. he walks back to his car and install his newly made sign. His car now proudly displays "Piss off credit card boy"

I dont have an issue with the Chevy vrs Ford vrs Mopar... etc mentallity. Its all in good fun and will always be there. The problems I have are when people come around and can see that you cared enough about your car to put that much money and work into it and have the nerve to badmouth i in your presence anyway.

I like seeing all cars at a car show ... however, if it is participant voting I do give most of my votes to Ford vehicles .... I guess we all discriminate a little ... :)

When I have to take part in participant judging, I try to keep an open mind and forget if the car is a Ford or a Chevy or whatever. If the 72' Chevelle SS is next to perfect and the Torino parked along side it looks like a daily driver, the Chevy would get my pick. I try to be as fair as I can and hope the other participants will be too. That is not always the case however. That's why I like AACA shows were I can sit on my butt and let the club members figure it all out.:)

I enjoy looking at all years and makes of vehicles. It shows how an individuals pride and passion for a hobby:clap: . I can really respect the guy/gal who has done the work on their vehicle. A majority of us can not do all the different aspects that go into building a car. I do what I can and try things I have no expertise in because I cannot afford to take it to a shop to have it done. But the end product is something I have sweat and blood (generally lots of it) in. I enjoy this board because of the ideas I have heard/seen and how everyone is willing to help each other out. :beerchug: To those who cannot see the effort put into a car it is their loss. The cars I have seen on this board show the pride and love of a car that most say people "why" to. Someday I hope my car will be as nice as all of yours. But if not I still have my mav and the joy of knowing I BUILT IT MYSELF. (I may have pilferred an idea or two):yup: . Enough of my soap box. Enjoy.

I remember back in the late 80's cruising about 30 miles to hit what was then the hottest cruise in my area. As I pulled into one of the premier parking spots a bunch of guys started waiving me over and gave me the primo spot right in front. And I quote "A Vega that looks this good, ought to be in front!" They did let me keep my car there even after they saw that the distributor was in the wrong place!

Every one in this hobby has their likes and dislikes, myself, I like any car that the owner has taken the time and or money to put it that level above a stocker. I love to see anything restored better than when it was new, modified to the owners taste, or totally customized beyond belief. I can put up with engine swaps, even different brands, because that is the roots of hot rodding,if what you have wasn't good enough, put something else in there that will do the job. Many of the classic old street rods and customs were built from nothing more than apile of junkyard parts, thats all those guys could afford and made do with what they could get their hands on. Look at Iskys roadster, for example. The grill shell was made from 2 hoods welded together! A creative mind and just a little talent can go a long way to creating that one of a kind car that says "I Built this my way". No, I don't like every modified car I see, ricers are a good example, but I appreciate the creativeity and work that goes into some of them. One thing I don't do,either, is when we're taking in a show, is to badmouth any vehicle very loudly or point out things that I may not like to the point of disrespecting the owner, I may say something to whoever is with me but we never, never get into any loud disagreements. People like that are not true lovers of the hobby as we are, they just want to look at pretty paint jobs and shiney chrome.

How true, I thought the purpose of going to car shows was to see all the different cars, not just one type of car. Well unless it is the Maverick Round Up. ;) :D

I had the same thing happen to me, compared to the GTO,Cutlass etc..... My car looked like crap. I heard almost word for word the same thing you did. They really made me feel welcome and one has even helped me on a couple of projects on my MAV. First chance I get I'm going back!!

One of two things going on here. They are most likely jealous because they don't own anything but want to or they own a Chevy and wish they didn't. I've seen some pics of your cars and I think they are awesome. I dislike people who just can't accept something for what it is. Hell with 'em:mad:

I like when I go to shows where participants and spectators do not know me or my car. I often look around and then walk back to my car and if there is a crowd or just a single person looking at my car I act like a spectator and let them give me their opinion be it good or bad by chatting with them. I have really embarased a few people after listening to them bash the model of the car for 10- 15 minutes while I listen and then I sit down in my chair. Some have walked off and some have apoligized. Everyone has their opionion but I always seem to be an underdog to certain models no matter what condition the other model is in. I do get plenty of good comments though. It seems everyone that talks to me has had a Maverick or knew someone close that had one. I always liked being different anyway. One night some guy asked me why I wasted my money and skill on a Maverick and not a Camero or Mustang. I asked him to count how many of those cars were at the show and then compare to how many Mavericks are here, he shook his head and walked off. Guess he did not understand.
