    You won't believe this...

I had a carb fire today (float stuck) and I burnt the fiberglass frame pretty good. :(

The clear got a couple of pock marks on the outside right over the air cleaner.
Glad I am eventually going to paint it or I'd be really pissed.

    Oh well. Murphy's law.

I'll tell you one thing, if you drive into the sun in the afternoon, you better have sunglasses on!

That thing is like a mirror.

Damn...that really does suck. Couldn't have happened with the steel hood still on it, huh. :( Hope it's gonna be okay. Maybe you should get one of those hood insulators for it.

The bottom side got the worst deal.
I am going to have to scrape off lots of flaked up gel coat.
The top side just popped a few flakes of clear off right over the air cleaner.
Like I said, if I was going to leave it carbon, I'd be pretty pissed.

What do you guys think I could fill the pock marks with when I get around to painting it?
    Flexible body filler???
They are about 1/4" round pocks/craters in the clear.
    Maybe 6 of them.
Not deep, just deep enough to notice.

It took me a minute to get to my fire extinguisher.
I had just locked up my shop.
I dared not open the hood and let it get oxygen.
I shot the extinguisher into the nostrils.
That got everything but the intake/air cleaner put out.
It was a really bad fire.
Flames were coming out of the nostrils, behind the hood burning the cowl, and out of the passenger side burning the fender.
Lots of rubber and wires burned. Melted my connectors to a crisp off the firewall.
    Melted my throttle cable too.
It was stuck. I had to break all the melted plastic out to free it up.

    Nope.
I washed off all the powder and waxed it.
Looks great except for the pock marks.
    Not terribly noticable.
    The hood was VERY hot.
I got the fire out then ran a hose on the hood and you could hear the water sizzle for a second!

Man, that sucks,, glad you got the fire out. I have no experience with cf. I am thinking the kitty hair stuff will bond to it best, ruff up the area good for adhesion. The kitty hair stuff is fiberglass bondo, as best as I can explain it. It is green out of the can. Very strong stuff and bonds well. Looks like you will need just a couple dabs. Prime it good and nobody will ever know.
